1. Introduction

What is SAS and why did I write it?

Basically there are two general categories of HTML editors in the world. The “do everything” authoring systems like Composer, Dream Weaver, and Front Page. Then there are things like bloggers and guest books.

The advantage of the blogger approach is ease of use and speed. Getting stuff on the web is quick and easy. The disadvantage is that you can’t do very much. The advantage to the “do everything” editors is that you can make beautiful pages, but it takes a lot of work to get them on the web.

SAS sits in the middle of these two extremes. It has (or will have) the functionality of Composer, and the quick ease of use of a blogger. This will allow users to update their sites spontaneously and frequently with rich content. SAS will also handle a lot of the tedious HTML building tasks for you, such as the generation of directories, “last changed” date stamps, and links between pages.
